How To Write Facebook Ads That Actually Convert

Now that we are coming into the busy Christmas season you should be pushing your advertising as hard as you can and making the most of it. I am going to give you a hand and share the exact process we use when coming up with the creative for our Facebook ads.

(This exact process has helped us get thousands of people signed up directly from Facebook)

Over the last few years, we have literally spent thousands on advertising and by this stage, we know what converts. Before we get into it though. I need to mention something really important. I have touched on this before, but this is one of the most important parts of the equation. You need to have an unbelievable offer. If you don’t. You simply won’t get anybody signed up. I will write a full article dedicated to creating offers in the future as it is so important.

(Get creative with this and honestly giving 5% off a box worth $40 isn’t going to get any customer excited)

Videos

Facebook loves video. The algorithm goes crazy for a good video and it’s one of the easiest ways to lower your CPA. Don’t worry though you don’t need to spend thousands on getting a professional video created. We found the best videos that convert are the simple ones that are about 30-40 seconds long.

So here’s the magic format

  1. The Customer receives the box and states what it is.
  2. Customer opens the box and is ecstatic and slowly starts going through the products.
  3. Customer says what good value the package is and states they are delighted they signed up for the box.
(Make sure it is one of the best boxes you have ever sent out and the products are all very high quality and the boxes look very full)
That is honestly it. I know every niche is different, but I have seen this type of approach work time and time again with boxes. It really doesn’t have to be complicated. This type of video can be recorded on a phone. No expensive cameras required. To be honest with you a phone is probably better anyway as it comes across more authentic.

Who will do this for me?

We have thousands of people signed up so we get great videos from our customers that we use for this. Some of you will only be starting out so here are some solutions’ for you.

  1. Get a box and go down to your friend’s house. Ask them nicely to do the video for you and print out a script telling them exactly what to say.
  2. Contact influencers on Instagram and tell them you will give them a free box if they shoot a video for you in the format described. ( Micro-influencers are your best shot with this)
  3. Run a competition on Facebook and give away some free boxes. Tell the winners to claim the prizes they need to shoot some box opening videos following the above format.
Congratulations, for the extremely low cost of a few boxes. You now have a selection of high converting videos you can use for years in your marketing campaigns. All these videos can be tested to find the top converters (Who knows, maybe all of them will convert and you can run them all at the same time spread across cold and warm traffic and clean up)

Images

Images are going to be another important part of the equation. I see so many ads from subscription boxes showing up on my newsfeed and the boxes look like they’re filled with a bunch of junk the owners got from pound stretcher. It’s either that or the images are extremely low quality and dark and it’s hard to see what’s in the box

Here are some tips.

  1. Make sure the box looks full and it is a colourful setting so it grabs attention on the newsfeed. (Take a look at the ads Graze are running for inspiration on this)
  2. Brighten up your pictures after you take them.
  3. Split test the format of your pictures.
  4. Add a human touch. Have some of the pictures with a human smiling. Giving a thumbs-up beside the box.
  5. Never do any ads with a closed box. (This is a sure-fire way to send your ad costs through the roof)

Writing ads that convert

I have touched on this before, but I will expand a bit on it here and tell you a system we use when writing our ads to make sure they convert. Break down the text in your ads into the following sections.

  1. Pattern Interrupt (Make a statement to grab attention on the Newsfeed. BOOM! Calling all Cat Lovers!, Attention Gym Lovers ETC)
  2. Offer: Hit them with your unbelievable offer( You can now get 50% off your first box etc)
  3. Tell them what you do: (Magic Crate is a monthly box of crazy and unique magic tricks that will blow your friends and family away)
  4. Social proof (Over 5,000 people can’t be wrong. Etc)

That is how we lay our ads out. It can get a lot more complicated, but if you are starting out I would advise following the above layout. A lot of work goes into copywriting though, and it isn’t something you can learn overnight. I find for cold traffic, shorter copy straight to the point works better. For retargeting though. A Longer copy can work very well as you fight each objection that the customer has.

Headlines:

Just keep it simple. Come up with 5 different headlines and test each of them and see which one converts the best.

  1. Join Gym Box Now
  2. Get your Magic Crate Now
  3. Get 2 boxes for $20
  4. Join today and get an extra month FREE! ETC…..

Just some very basic examples, but you get the idea. Keep it simple and straight to the point.

Call to action

All we use are one of the following calls to actions. Sign up or learn more. That is literally it.

That is a basic crash course on how to lay your ads out. I think it is a big problem for a lot of people and they tend to get overwhelmed. My advice is to keep it as simple as possible and logically work through each step of the process and eventually, you will find ads that convert. An important thing to remember is you need to do a lot of testing. You simply won’t find working ads overnight. You need to have patience and test everything. I hope you found this article helpful and you can use it as a guide to growing your subscriber base using Facebook. If you have any questions, let me know and I would be happy to answer them.
